Is there an age limit?

Yes, we only accept members or carry out try dives for those over the age of 18. There’s no upper age limit provided you can complete a simple self-declaration medical form.

When does the club meet for training?

Every Tuesday night at 7.30 apart from bank holiday weeks. We also take a little break over Christmas to get ready for Santa and then recover from the mulled wine and mince pies.

How will the membership fees be taken?

The fees for the year are taken for both BSAC and the club by direct debit shortly after you join and continue to be taken on an annual basis after that.

Do I have to be a great swimmer to learn to dive?

No, diving is a totally different skill to swimming. You will just need to be comfortable in the water and capable of completing a few lengths of the pool without stopping.

What sort of diving will I do with the club?

Initial training for those new to diving will be in the pool. Further diving is carried out in the lakes, usually Crummock and Wastwater. We also have trips further afield in the UK such as St Abbs for sea diving or Capernwray which is a sheltered quarry. We also like the odd trip abroad for a bit of warm water and sunshine!

What equipment will I need?

Initially the club will have everything you need and this will be free of charge while you use it in the pool. We then charge a nominal fee for the use of this equipment for open water trips. The only thing we can’t provide for open water trips is a drysuit but our instructors will provide advice on what equipment would be best for you when the time comes to buy your own.

Is scuba diving expensive?

No. Like any hobby or recreation, you can invest however much you want, depending upon your interest level. Because as a club we can hire you equipment you can invest in equipment over time, renting what you don’t have in the meantime. Travel costs vary with the type of trip and we arrange a variety of events to suit every pocket.
